World Of Tanks Roll Out #1 by Dark Horse Comics and video game developer Wargaming is here!
Writer Garth Ennis (Preacher, War Stories, The Punisher), the absolute master of comic war stories teams up with legendary artist Carlos Ezquerra (Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog, War Stories Vol. 2) for a 5 issue limited series from Dark Horse that drops you into the brutal world of WWII tank warfare during the summer of 1944 in post D-Day Normandy. With beautiful painted covers by Isaac Hannaford (HALO: Reach, The Punisher), this series reveals the horror of war as seen through the eyes of German Panzer and British Cromwell tank crews. With Michael Atiyeh colors and lettering by Rob Steen, Dark Horse has delivered a action packed and engaging tale of war and the sacrifices that come with it.
If you are a fan of Garth Ennis war stories you can rest assured that World of Tanks Roll Out #1 is not going to disappoint. After reading issue one there is no doubt in my mind that this series will earn a place on my bookshelf next to his other epic collections such as Battlefields, War Stories, 303 and War Is Hell:Flight of the Phantom Eagle.
As usual, Ennis immediately and quickly fleshes out the characters on both sides and makes you root for the British as well as the German tank crews. Ezquerra’s artwork takes me back to the days of classic DC and Marvel war comics like Sgt. Rock, Star Spangled War Stories and Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos. I’m sure Joe Kubert would approve of his artwork. It doesn’t take long for the action to become hot and heavy with a classic Ennis cliffhanger at the end that will have you calling your favorite comic store wanting to know when the next issue ships.
